YOUTH INTERN PROGRAM
Youth Intern Training Workshop:
All Youth Interns Welcome. Also this year two grown-up teachers and an art therapist will be joining our intern team.
Youth Interns
The Youth Interns are a group of participants that have been through the Kids in the Spotlight program and are now learning about leading and development.
These youth range from13 to 19 years old and are from all walks of life and from several cultures. The program consists of a step by step process starting at youth intern level I all the way to assistant level II. Hands-on training is provided along with opportunities for sharing and discussion.
Youth Intern Workshop
Before the Kids in the Spotlight courses run in July, a Youth Intern Workshop is held at the end of June to allow the Youth Interns a chance to learn about leading and to reconnect and become a strong team with other Youth Interns. At this workshop various experiences, from physically challenging obstacle courses to expressive activities such as drumming and creative activities such as art. Youth Interns are also offered academic learning about development to help them better understand themselves and the children with whom they work.
Roles
Roles of the Youth Interns include tracking participants in the program to see how they progress through the five days and facilitating a small group of children in a discussion. Along with group leading and facilitating youth interns participate in a number of creative activities including assisting in music editing, adjusting lighting, preparing costumes, and making props and posters. The Youth Interns also learn about safety and leading games.
